Short description Recognise common equine field presentations, protect immediate safety, record objective observations and communicate promptly with the veterinary team. Blended learning with supervised practical assessment.
Outcomes
  • Describe the learner's role boundaries and activate the EIEV veterinary escalation route without delay.
  • Use a structured distance-first observation to identify changes in behaviour, posture, movement, appetite, output and breathing.
  • Collect and report a concise history and approved observations without presenting a diagnosis.
  • Recognise red flags associated with common abdominal, musculoskeletal, wound, eye, swallowing, respiratory, heat and neurological presentations.
  • Select safe immediate actions and avoid actions that could worsen injury, compromise welfare or delay veterinary care.
  • Apply infection-control precautions when a contagious condition is possible.
  • Complete an accurate field observation and veterinary handover record.
  • Demonstrate the course escalation process in scenario-based and supervised practical assessments.
Requirements
  • Role-appropriate horse-handling competence, EIEV induction, access to the learner manual and workbook, and attendance at the scheduled live and supervised sessions.
